Cracked Glass Technique

Technique Video #3.  Cracked Glass Technique.  I happened to find this card in my archives and thought it would be a great fall card for technique class.

Below is a long video (feel free to fast forward through some of it still not sure how to do some of the editing).

Shaker Frame

Technique #2.  Shaker card.  This was a hit at technique club!  The window pane die from Hearth and Home stamp set Happy Scenes are a great bundle that work perfectly for this card.  The stars border punch created the "leaves" for the shaker.

Here is the video:

European Kissing Technique

It's technique time!  I'm calling technique "European Kissing".  When I think of Europeans as they greet each other, I think of when they "double kiss" (each cheek).  This technique calls just for that -- double kissing.  The present in the center is a result of all that kissing!  A plaid design was created from a diagonal pattern.

Check out my video to make the card.

Sleigh Ride Night Houses

This year's holiday catalog is filled with lots of fun and exciting products.  I love the Sleigh Ride Edgelits Dies and the Curvy Corner Trio Punch.  I had die cut the houses, but had no idea what I was going to make with it.  I just happened to have the night of navy sitting out on my desk and paired the two together.  Then I found a navy piece with the stars embossed (with the Lucky Stars Textured Embossing Folder (ON SALE THIS WEEK) ... another perfect fit.  Added some decorative corners and a little gold glimmer paper, and the result is this pretty card!  Sometimes the "unplanned"cards turn out better than the planned ones.

Stamp Out Breast Cancer with Paper Pumpkin

To show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're going PINK . . . or at least our October boxes are! And because we know our subscribers want to share the love too, we will be making a donation on their behalf to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
Stampin' Up! will donate
  • $1 for every active Paper Pumpkin subscriber.
  • Plus, an additional $1 for every new subscriber.
Together, we will make a difference!

Here's how you can help:
  1. Subscribe! If you're new to Paper Pumpkin, click here to get started. Your first kit will arrive in a limited-edition pink box that you'll want to hold onto forever-and we'll donate $2 because you're new!
  2. Stay active if you're a subscriber so we can donate $1 for you. Only those who receive the October shipment will be counted for the donation.
  3. Spread the word! Help us get as many new subscribers as possible. Every current subscriber adds $1 and for new subscribers it's doubled, so let's get the word out and raise as much as possible.
More About BCRF.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) advances the world's most promising research to eradicate breast cancer. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF has raised more than $550 million to fuel discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, survivorship and metastasis, making it one of the largest non-governmental funders of breast cancer research in the world. This year BCRF has invested $58.6 million in research, to support over 235 researchers at leading medical institutions across six continents, including $11.6 million to the international Evelyn H. Lauder Founder's Fund focused on metastasis. By spending 91 cents of every dollar on research and public awareness programs, BCRF remains one of the nation's most fiscally responsible nonprofits. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization with an "A+" from CharityWatch, and has been awarded Charity Navigator's highest rating of four stars 13 times since 2002. For more information, please visit: www.bcrfcure.org.

Additional Details:
  • New subscribers are those who signed up between September 11 and October 10, 2015 and have not been a Paper Pumpkin subscriber at any time in the past.
  • All funds will be donated in US dollars.
  • Mini spoiler alert! The October project inside the pink box is just as awesome as always, but we should probably let you know that it is not a pink project. That's all we're saying. ;)
  • Funds will be donated based on number of subscribers instead of boxes shipped. But, if you want more than one pink box, you can always increase your subscription quantity by logging into your account at PaperPumpkin.com before October 10.
Please select me as your demonstrator (Karen Philipp, Butler, WI).  Thanks.

Thoughts & Prayers

Thoughts and Prayers stamp set has been sitting on my shelf for a long time.  I decided to pull it out and this is what I came up with.  The color combination is a little odd, but it goes well together ... lost lagoon, Bermuda bay and tip top taupe.  The corners of center were punched with the triple corner punch (found in the new holiday catalog).  The Bermuda bay sequins add just a little bling.

We will be making this card in an upcoming card class.  If you are interested in joining us simply email me.

Give Thanks

Fall is my favorite card making time.  I just love the colors and the serenity of the season.

This is a fun card.  The stamp set Thankful Forest Friends is a cute set.  I love the little bear, and wasn't sure how to use him....so this is what I came up with.  The base of the card is soft suede that is folded and trimmed 2-3/4.  I used a 2-1/2" circle for the little "dip" in the front.  The printed design is  Into the Woods Designer Series Paper.

Every Blessing

I know it's still a bit early for the Christmas cards, but not for those who like to plan ahead!  This is one of the cards we made in our Christmas card class.  It's a CASE from another demonstrator (don't have the name available), but love the way this turned out.  These colors are unusual for Christmas, but the card ended up being so striking!

The scene was created by first stamping the image with Versamark and heat embossing it with black embossing powder.  Then it was sponged with Sahara Sand (bottom), So Saffron (middle) and the top with Rich Razzleberry.  The gold and base of card were die cut with the Deco Framelits and run through the Big Shot.

Upcoming Christmas classes are being held the fourth Monday thru November.  Interested?  Just email me.

Coloring DSP Technique

Final video for the August technique classes.  This one is so simple.  It's called coloring designer paper.  Who would have thought something so profound would be so easy.  Many people (like myself) never would have ever even considered changing the designer paper.  But this technique can be done with marker, sponges, or daubers.

Here is the video:

Peaceful Wreath Window

I'm so lovin' the new Holiday Catalog!  Here is a combination of sets and materials that I used to make this rustic card.  The birch trees were embossed using the Woodland Textured Impressions
Embossing Folder, then used a dauber with white ink over the top.  I also used an early espresso marker in the little grooves of the trees.

Next I used the Hearth & Home Thinlits Die for the window in early espresso.  The "wallpaper" is from Timeless Elegance Designer Paper.  The wreath and bow were made using the Peaceful Wreath stamp set ... garden green ink on garden green cardstock.  Then I colored in the holly leaves with a Mint Macaron marker (so they wouldn't get so dark), and the holly berries are colored with a calypso coral marker.  The vines are done with crumb cake.  Also stamped with crumb cake was the bow.  The wreath and bow were then cut out using the Wonderful Wreath Framelits (found in the annual catalog).  The sentiment is from the White Christmas stamp set, also found in the annual catalog.

If you'd like to participate in a future Christmas card class, feel free to email me for reservations (if you are in the Milwaukee/Metro area).
