Old Fashion Christmas

Are you having an Old Fashioned Christmas?  It's interesting to see how many of my friends either "get" this card and those that don't.  More of my "older" friends do, because they do enjoy their cocktails and the Old Fashion may be their cocktail of choice.

This card was fun to create and turn into a Christmas card with just a few tweaks.  It was done by adding the plaid designer paper in the background, changing the color of the sentiment from black to shaded spruce, added the real red Christmas sentiment cut out and placed over the birthday sentiment, and an added holly in the corner.

The coloring of the liquor was also fun.  Using my Stampin' Blends, I just kept shading and adding using Light and Dark Cinnamon Cider, Bronze, Dark Melon Mango and the color lifter over the ice cubes.  As the blends dried, they got a little lighter, so I then just added more color layers until I got the look I was going for.

Concentric Circles Technique

Technique Time - I've seen these concentric circles shown around the internet and was excited to give it a try.  It seems like it would be very difficult, but it's not.  (I know, I always say that LOL).  The tricky part is actually the cutting out and figuring out which circle is what size.  I hope this video clarifies any questions you might have in making this.

Circle measurements:

  • Night of Navy - 3" circle - cut in half
  • Designer paper - 3" circle - cut in half
  • Smoky Slate - 2-3/4" circle - cut in half
  • Designer paper 2-1/2" circle - use all of circle (but cut in half)
  • Designer paper - 2" circle - cut in half
  • Smoky Slate - 2" circle - cut in half
  • Night of Navy - 1-1/4" circle - use all of circle (NOT cut in half)

Faux Wood Burning

Technique Time - Faux wood burning.  It's interesting anyone who sees the card in person has to touch the card to check to see that the image is not actually embedded into the background.  This was such a fun and simple technique -- really it is!  The top image uses the Peaceful Pines stamp set, the snowman is from the Snow Wonder stamp set.

Here is a video to show you how simple it is!
